Meet Dr. Michael Bernard

After practicing orthodontics for more than 40 years, I find I still have the same zeal for creating beautiful smiles that I had during my first few years after graduating from dental school. I truly believe that creating spectacular smiles and interacting with young patients in a positive way is my chosen role in life. While it is so fulfilling to positively influence the lives of young people in my community, I also greatly appreciate the level of trust my adult patients place in me and my team.

We have a friendly, upbeat practice which is one of the finest in Ohio, and feature the highest degree of professionalism and advanced clinical expertise. Our practice is dedicated to creating a caring and fun-loving atmosphere where beautiful smiles are created every day.

Education and Continuing Education

  • Bachelor of Science – Allegheny College
  • Doctorate of Dental Surgery – Ohio State University
  • Master of Science – Ohio State University
  • Orthodontic certificate – Ohio State University

In order to keep our practice on the cutting edge of creating ideal smiles, bites, and faces, I attend more than 50 hours of continuing education courses and seminars each year. There is so much to learn when it comes to the specialty of orthodontics, and technology changes constantly.

Because of this, I belong to three study groups: the Super Schulman Study Group, a nationwide orthodontic group that meets twice a year; the EICO Study Club, a Cleveland-area orthodontic group that meets every month; and the Comprehensive Dental Excellence Forum, a Stark County group of general dentists and specialists who meet on a monthly basis to discuss all types of dental and orthodontic cases.

My commitment to the field of orthodontics also includes membership in many professional organizations. Over the many years I’ve been in practice, I’ve been very involved with the orthodontic and dental communities, and my work has been recognized numerous times. I was awarded the Ohio Dental Association’s Humanitarian Award in 1994 and the Stark County Dental Society’s Distinguished Dental Service Academy Award in 2006.

Family and Community

I grew up in Lyndhurst, a suburb of Cleveland, and have lived in North Canton for more than 40 years. My wife Sally and I have been happily married for 43 years, and we have four grown children of whom we are very proud. On a daily basis, I can be found working out at the YMCA before the sun rises, and weekends are filled with bike rides on the towpath or open road. I also love to travel with my wife.

Giving children an amazing smile is just the icing on the cake for me. What I’m truly interested in is making a difference in their lives, mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Sally and I love to take children to zoos, shows, museums, and amusement parks. Our goal is to mold them into responsible and successful adults.

I am also active in the YMCA’s Big Brother/Big Sister program. I currently have two “little brothers,” and as a member of St. Paul’s Church in North Canton, I have taught religious education to eighth graders for more than 20 years. I have also coached baseball, basketball, and soccer for my children and others over the years.
